Honda has been building cars in Ohio at least since the early '90s. Had a '93 Civic built in East Liberty or Marysville... can't remember which. Sadly, the Fits (I actually own an '09) come from Japan.

God that Fit is a seriously sexy car. I know a couple of anti-global warming types who believe that humans can never have an impact on such a large planet, but whatever the truth is (Al Gore warning us, or Al Gore making serious bucks as a failed presidential candidate getting rich off of the green movement, anti-global warming types often point to the Honda Fit and Toyota Corolla as cars that have a smaller carbon footprint than the Toyota Prius or yuppie mobile Mini Coopers snotty rich liberals like to drive? And I am a liberal and even those liberals with small or hybrid cars who give me dirty looks because I can't afford their new Prius or mini just drive me nuts.

Anyway, environmentalist or not, what do you think about the Fit's overall city and highway gas mileage? And does it really beat the Prius in overall gas mileage? Toyota also has a very similar small type of car that is totally sexy. To me, small is sexy (but not Smart Car), and I could parallel park easier than my huge SW, and get great gas mileage.

I have also considered Mazda 3 and Pontiac Vibe.

I don't think this is real. If this was a "prototype" why would it have XX GB on the back. None of the OEM iPhone 4's have any storage indication markings on the outside. So why would the XX be on the case?

If you ask me, its customized with aftermarket white glass (that you can buy from china, in white, pink, blue, black, green, etc).

In fact, after looking closer at the video. The back of the case appears to be a shiny or clear-coat plastic, and not glass. Furthermore, there appears to be a separation or gap along the bottom edge of the phone on the back of the device. Supporting that it is a poor seal from an aftermarket replacement of a black iphone 4's glass with a replica white piece. Such a gap would NOT exist if this was released by apple or exist in a prototype.

Prototype iPhones do have XX denoting the storage space. The 64GB prototypes for sale in Mongkok have the XX on the back too. Wouldn't surprise me if the same supplier of the dozen or so black ones in the wild also slipped this outa Shenzen foxconn.

So the iPod Nano and Shuffle are failures in the same context?

The iPod line relied on the music library of the owner and the usage options. The iPhone is a smart phone. It's main usage is constant. The iPod had varied usage depending on model. iPos shuffle extreme portability for sports and style for women, iPod nano for the casual user who wanted more features and for those with active lifestyles and the iPod classic for the owners of large music libraries and wanted portable video as well as the power user who accessed the device as a portable hard drive.

The only thing I'm missing on my 11" MBA is an SD card slot. I use my MBA 80% for pictures and video. I use a Wifi SD card now but away from home the SD slot would be great.

Why don't you enable internet sharing on your mac instead? You don't need to be actually connected to the internet if you only wanna gain access to your computer.

Imagine you move to a country where nobody talks to white people. White people are totally ignored, irrespective of anything. Naturally then, if you employed a white person to work in a shop they'd do an awful job because they wouldn't be able to serve any of the racist clientele.

You're saying "they'd do an awful job," when in reality there's no way to judge how well they were able to perform because they were never given a chance to demonstrate their capabilities.

So let's reword your sentence to be more accurate ...

Naturally then, if you employed a white person to work in a shop they'd never have a chance to prove their capability because they wouldn't be able to serve any of the racist clientele.

You going to fire a person because of that?

Personally, I'd be looking for better customers. Normally, I think of people who do business with disgusting and loathsome customers as whores.

I don't know. Does the US military usually sell its tech to the Japanese?

Seems to me that it's a technology lots of people are working on in parallel.

Nice example. Frank Whittle (http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/bljetengine.htm) received the first jet engine patent in 1930. He had been in the Air Force, but they wouldn't sponsor his research - so the development was privately funded and finally demonstrated in 1937.

I think you're confusing fission and fusion.

Darpanet, indeed. But the web itself was developed in peacetime by a man researching at a (non military) Swiss research establishment (http://public.web.cern.ch/public/en/about/web-en.html).

The first commercial transistors were developed for telecoms by AT&T / Texas instruments (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transistor).

The integrated circuit was invented in peace time, and it's mass production was spurred as much by the Apollo program (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit) as for defence.

Interestingly, defence and space are very conservative in their use of technology and CPUs. The increase in CPU power over time has clearly been motivated by commercial market forces (non military).

Yes, I don't deny that defence money does finance innovation. But that's not the same as implying that innovation wouldn't take place if it wasn't for War. That's clearly nonsense - there's plenty of civil and commercial market forces that also spur development, and the examples you've cited demonstrate a few. War is not an essential for human or technological development, although it may speed it along a little from time to time.

I don't think you understand the progress of technological advancements. You seem to have this idea that once something is thought of in bed, it's guaranteed to be on an instant bee line to world scale distribution. While it's true that many tech breakthroughs (or ideas) can be implemented rigth away, much of the most out disruptive realizations require huge investestments with no obvious guarantee of a profit.

And there is a distinguishment between nuclear reality and nuclear fantasy (fusion).
    http://www.howstuffworks.com/nuclear-power.htm

Bollocks. It is absolutely nothing to do with evolution. Opposed thumbs, brain size, bipedality, toolmaking and speech have had the most influence on our development. As to whether we have evolved past any other species, that, I would have thought, is very much up for debate.

Yea it does. To simply put it, there's no animal in between "us" and the "nearest monkey". They are all fossils. That's because in competition, we killed "our own kind" in the strugle for survival and prosperity. That is...unless you prefer the "man created in the image of some deity" explaination.

I've looked at sites about it, but they don't walk through the whole procedures and what you feel like after etc...

    Is it all IV? Gas?

What do you feel like when you come to?

As ITR 81 already mentioned, they are already often selling at below their cost to attract customers. They don't have any room to go lower unless the studios drop their prices.

    B

this is something that needs to be pointed out again. The complaint that Target has is the fact that the online download price is well below the cost it would be for them. You have to remember when they sell a DVD they only make 1-2 bucks off of it. Right now the stuff on iTunes is below what it cost them to get it and apple is making money off of it. Not losing it like Target is.

They are telling the studios they want to be able to buy the DVDs from them at a more competive price. If they do not get their way they will reduce the amount of shelf space for the DVD and reduce the amount they sell because of that. Net result is the studios lose more money.

Never said I was Gandhi. My point is valid nonetheless.

Though, it is with the assumption that if those people DIDN'T buy white kits, they would have given the money to the developing nations. ;)

I understand what you're saying, the realist in me has just come to accept that this is the way the world has been, is, and will continue to be. 99% of people in developed nations will tell you how terrible is it that people live without clean drinking water, vaccination, etc, but if you asked them to give up one luxury in their life to contribute to fixing those injustices, they would not.

It's the classic thing of how people complain about child labor, foreign works who are forced to work 16 hour shifts 7 days a week but still want their cheap and shoes at super low prices. That however is a completely separate debate.

As for the kid in the news, I think it's amazing that he has set up this business for himself, most 17 year old kids today are too busy drinking, getting high and trying to bang everything possible. Even if he loses every penny he has profited through court costs, the amount of knowledge he has learned, and connections he will have will give him a great advantage in life (though he clearly already has one). If anything, the news coverage might get him some help or a job in the future, people love young kids like this who are able to do what he has done, legal or not.

I believe the crucial difference is that you believe when government taxes and spends the money on a service, it's better than not taxing at all.

Somehow, I knew you would reply like you did. Again, I have a job in an actual data center as a systems administrator. Let me tell you, I know the real story. ;) And it's not just my company. Go take a look around and see how many shops use Windows to run their SAP environnements. Their peoplesoft stuff. Heck, just their lowly Oracle installations.

And who said I was talking about Enterprise Macs ? My Unix boxes cost well over 100k$ a piece.

It depends on where you work. I have worked for agencies within the US government that were almost 100% Windows. Granted, we weren't running anything like SAP or Peoplesoft, but the servers virtually all Windows based. We had a few Solaris boxes scattered about, but that was about it. I guess Microsoft had better lobbyists or something.

My current employer (different agency) is much better. Oddly, one of the components I work with is heavily...AIX. I guess IBM isn't totally dead yet.

Edit: Bah, forgot to do multiquote

Anyway, regarding the earlier discussion on Android vs. iOS: I don't see how Android is that hard to use. I never even looked at my user manual. It's all touch based with pretty icons. How is that difficult?

Why? You don't need high speed internet to put a USB stick in your computer, no need to wait for hours, just plug it in and be happy.

hes obvs talking about non physical distribution (hint: broadband). using a usb stick is just as "dumb" as using a disc, its still physical media, whats the difference if u plug in a usb stick or use a disc which is cheaper to produce ...

I want pilotwings. I have loved that series and was seriously upset that I went two whole home console generations without seeing a sequel to Pilotwings / Pilotwings 64.

So looks like I will be buying a 3DS.

Is Pilotwings a launch title ?
