My sister, as part of submitting documents for her fiance visa application, recently got a birth certificate. However, it doesn't have her name on it. Odd as it sounds, the municipality says that this is common practice. It just has the name of the parents.
Is this acceptable for a fiance visa? Thanks.

Most people think the Border Patrol just patrols the border. But Nina Bernstein reports in the New York Times this morning that the agency is involved in doing checks on Amtrak trains going between major cities like Chicago and New York that don't actually go by the border. My country of citizenship is Canada and currently working on TN status. Canada is covered under Visa waiver program so, I don't need to get visa stamping but need to travel through a POE so, I could get new I-94 for the H validity period.
In the I-129, I have opted for Calgary as POE, but due to some reasons now I have to travel via Toronto, would that be ok?

I am not sure if it was posted before, the immigrant visa fee will go up to $400 from $380 effective January 1, 2008.
Also, Bombay and Madras consulates switched to NVC appointment processing (NVC takes over the scheduling of immigrant visa appointments). Delhi and Calcutta are still standard processing posts, but expect them to be converted in the near future as well.
Chinese, Japanese, Australian and some other (mostly Asian) consulates still follow standard processing, but expect them to be converted in 2008 as well.
They convert consulates without any notice to the public, so always check here before sending in DS-230 and supporting documents:

My friend was on H1B visa from last 5.5 years and Laid off last week .
I want to know what options she has to stay in USA.
from last company her labor and 140 was approved .
Can she do visa transfer and start new labor ?
Its only 5-6 months left in her 6 year h1b visa .
Attorneys please reply .

We got something similar. I have seen other posts in the forums but can't find them now. I would suggest you go for the fingerprints/biometrics and be done with it. Don't give them an excuse to actually implement "if you don't show up, your application will be considered abandoned".

If you maintain residence here and continue to pay taxes, I think this is doable. You will have to ask USCIS for permission to stay out of the country for about three years.

no, you don't have to stick with lawyer for everything.

Nobody can predict when the quota will fill up. However, note that there are wide spread rumors about the regular quota being used up as early as the first day and Masters within a few weeks. Its in your best interest to file as early as possible.
