    I was the first person in the QnA - disappointed at the intent of this meeting - they really care about illegal immigration - not once legal immigrants were discussed. It was a farce and IV was just used as an organization to show support to him - very disappointed.:mad:

    I was at the meeting and I was really taken aback by your question, it was totally out of context, I think I understand your position which is 'You wanted GC - you are not getting it - you decide to go back - but before that you decide to attend school - but cant get F1 coz you extablizhed Intent to Immigrate' -- This is a unique situation... atleast not something the larger IV community is affected by, but the accusing tone of your question to the Rep. was uncalled for .. I dont even know what you expected out of this meeting for your situation .. just try to get some perspective and place things incontext.. and again numbers matter.. if there were thousands of ppl in your situation your problem would have been addressed... anyways.. I beg to differ on your opinion about it being a farce.. There is effort being put to address the issues and IV has to maintain presence and make sure our issues are out there and are being noticed and not forgotten.. and thats what precisely happened yesterday.. IV members who are affected by Retrogression made their presence felt, the Core members were present on the dias rubbing shoulders with Congressman Gutierrez and representing the retrogressed community.
    Your issue.. my friend .. unfortunately is not on the mandate of IV or the congressman..no doubt you were disappointed.. but good luck with you efforts and struggle.

    IV has people on the national advisory board that include the previous USCIS ombudsman, what is their take on this? I have not seen any thoughts from such experts that support this organization on this issue of quarterly spillover

    if you read previous discussion and particulary logiclife post, you will find, any immigration reform bill will not be discussed let alone passed until it resolves illegal immigration issue

    gone are the days where h1b increase use to be part of some budget bill.

    you just can't do that any more

    only chance SKILL has is thru CIR or other forum where it address illegal issue,

    my point is we don't need any legislative change at this point,

    IV is for legals who are already here legally and our demands are very simple, such as if they allow use to file I485 with being current and if they use unused visa numbers and allocate them to over subscribed countries our life will be lot better,

    we need to rethink our stratergy and stop knocking these law makers, who cares only about illegals, either they are against them or far them, but they just don't really care about legals

    Everybody stands in one single queue......one line not five lines......one line my friend, irrespective of your nationality. so if you wait 2 years, or 2 hours..I wait the same. Unlike NOW, where some people wait 5-8 years and others 1-2 years.

    I don\'t want to stand in line three times longer just because 60 percent of the applicants are natives of one country. Look what\'s going on with H-1B. There is no per-country quota and ROW is simply screwed.

    Hi

    As mentioned in my previous post

    I got the approval email for my 485 filed in June - 2007.I guess my wife's case should be approved soon.So does that mean biometrics is needed in my case as the message which is commmon - Card production is not given which I guess is sent for most of the approved cases ?

    Or has anyone updates after the approval message ?

    It is sad that none of these desi sites have come forward to help us put our ads on their sites. None has helped us in our cause, even though they are run by immigrants like us who were at one time waiting in line for their greencards. Now after getting their greencard they do not want to help the cause but instead want to make money from it. If any such site owner is reading this post and desires to help by posting our ad on your site, contact us.

    Thank you for your effort to post IV messages on various websites.

    could you do a search on yahoo groups, msn groups, google groups on greencard, immigration, legal immigration etc and see if those groups have many members and it is not an anti immigrant group from its intro. Then join them and start posting IV messages in them. You will find hundreds of groups. Each post will send emails to all its members.

    i have already done that.I found only few groups that are active and have more members.I have posted in them.

    There are several groups in yahoo, msn, google that belong to alumni of IITs, IIMs etc and a lot of their members are in USA. you can post messages in those forums too.
    I didn't try that ,they may be moderated .i will give a shot.

    Go through my thread- ideas to increase publicity of IV from last page to first page (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=694) . You will find several sites and ideas to post IV messages online.

    IV is grateful for your tireless effort posting messages. While all others lost their steam, you have continued your mission. We recognize your efforts and hope some others will join you to help.

    Hi All,

    I applied my I485 in April 2007 (PD-July 2002, RD-April 23, 2007) and there has been no update (LUDs) on my application even after FP in May 2007. I called up NSC in Nov 2007 and they confirmed that FPs are OK and it is OK to have no LUDs after FP. Since then, it is a waiting game. Till Feb, i was told that my app is under security review (although my spouse's review was complete). After the USCIS's memo in Feb, there is no update either. My attorney has opened an SR with NSC on may 8th and they acknowledged that my app is outside the normal processing time.

    Any suggestions on what steps should i take?

    The number of job openings grew in April, indicating a continued loosening of the job market after the worst downturn in decades. Employers had a seasonally-adjusted 3.1 million openings on the last business day of April, up about 300,000 from March and about 800,000 from last summer's trough.

    Industries seeing the most growth included education and health services, which saw openings rise 7% from last month, and professional and business services, which grew about 24%. Government job openings saw the largest contraction--about 8.5% fewer public sector jobs were available in April than were available in March.

    The slowest growing region in April was the South, which saw openings rise by about 6%, while the Northeast, Midwest, and West saw increases of between 12% and 16%.

    "We're definitely seeing a brighter outlook, but not near a rubber-band snap back," says Rich Milgram, CEO of Beyond.com, a network of 15,000 niche career websites.

    Entry-level jobs posted on Beyond.com's network increased 80% between the first quarter of last year and this year, with engineering, healthcare, and information technology industries faring the best. High-paying, managerial roles saw more tepid increases, indicating that employers are choosing to fill cheap positions first, Mr. Milgram says.

    Even though the number of openings has grown, it can take three to four months before increases in openings start to translate to increases in actual hires, Mr. Milgram says.

    Soliant Health, a staffing firm for the health care industry, has seen requests from companies for nurse practitioners and physician assistants triple in the last year, says president David Alexander. Retailers, many of which have opened clinics inside their stores, and companies conducting in-home clinical trials have been among employers showing the most demand, while pharmacy technicians and licensed practical nurses, who don't need as much training as registered nurses, have been hard to place.

    "We're just starting to see pockets of demand pick up after the layoffs last year, but employers are still having no trouble finding candidates," Mr. Alexander says.

    All these companies take people on H1 and after an year of year an half they say they have changed policy and they can't file H1. They have big lawyers like M**** and R**** and those lawyers tell employers even if your employee is on 5th year and if you don't file GC (PERM) b4 365 days its alright.... we can send them out and re catpture time and all BS and ultimately employees suffer.... as they r in their 5th or some are in 6th year and are completely screwed up.
    We should think of taking some legal actions...

    Ya..make sure you consult your attorney to know if such a thing is viable. :). Make sure you read the "employment at will" agreement along with all the other 28 pages that you will abide by the HR policies and also make sure that you read the 125 pages of HR policies.

    Hi,

    I was one of the marshalls, reached Los Angeles like an hour ago. The rally was a huge success, but not upto the expectations from the locals. There is no doubt there is more participation from CA members in both days 17, & 18th and I am not sure what stopped locals attending the rally when they have excellent commuting options to the monument and the capitol area unlike the west coast where we're forced to drive.

    I am sure that the local chapter leaders such as Arun, Sukhvinder, Sivakanth, & others put a lot of time, effort, & money into getting the permits from different authorities, display matertials prepared and delivered on time, and other logistics.
    At the same time, having 6 weeks time for the rally, I think the local chapters in DC, VA, MD, & DE should have taken a bigger initiative in conducting chapter meetings to improve the participation, and volunteer efforts in receiving people from the airports and/or providing accommodations.

    I spoke to one person from CA who came with all the checks written with the names & amounts in advance, and handing them over to the respective members who sponsered others for the rally.

    Thanks to all who made the rally a big success.

    I do support in changing the organization name to "Legal Immigration Voice" immediately.

    What ever stopped the people in MA/NY/NJ to board the buses stopped the people in DC/VA/MD to get on to the Metro train and come to the rally. Its not the distance, as it may seem to you and me, But Its the lack of will, lack of commitment.

    If people think about San Jose rally and think it was a huge success, people showed up in 2 days yada yada.., there is a diff reason. Does it even need to be mentioned?

    All that I can tell you guys is we did more than our best to get the locals to get to the rally. We can only call/email them or give flyers and let them notify. The final 6 days, our active members had stood out at every place they could and distributed flyers to 3000-3500 people. All the six weeks they have been doing spreading the word.

    I hope your message was just expressing disappointment by the turn out an was not actually questioning the commitment of the people who worked on this.

    There is nothing wrong if you get trained as a fresher and get into consulting but i don't think its not the same way TCS, WIPRO, Satyam and Infosys etc..is doing. Those companies take you as fresher and they train u very well and you get the freedom of learning. Its like team learning.You need not to worry to say that you are a fresher. They also pay very less salary charging less billing with clients compared to the open market. But being a fresher in USA , getting trained , getting into a project , all these are individual hardwork and ofcourse more money.Once you are on client side you may not have much support as Satyam, TCS, WIPRO guys has. you can not say that u r a fresher and client expectation would be more since they pay high billing .

    Please note that IV does not endorse this effort. We strongly advice people against being part of it for several strategic reasons. We do acknowledge that this is part of IV stated agenda and you are not going against IV in principle. But by creating a splinter group and meeting key lawmakers with whom we have worked for more than 2 years on this issue, your effort may prove to be detrimental to our hard work.

    Without going into details on this open forum, We have taken pains to develop relationships with key lawmakers to help on this issue and we seek strategic advice from our counsel and work under a strategy. By simply going forward to promote a 2 line bill your effort will not compliment IV effort. We wish it was that easy but the reality is very different. Do not assume that key lawmakers do not know this particular issue. Please wait for the right time when it is suitable to push this agenda when there is pro-immigration agenda on the table and IV will guide you for it on how to proceed. At this moment we expect the community to be united against such anti-foreign workers amendments rather than going to different directions. We have information that much more maybe planned against foreign workers in the times to come. IV is working on protecting the interests of our community members and we want everyone to be united.

    If you want to get active, the best option right now is to spread the word about IV and get every foreign worker under IV umbrella.
