They can get a work permit to work in India. The only requirement is that they have to sign on a police register every month or so. This is because Indian Immigration still has not yet computerized all their records due to little to no demand.
Companies like Infosys and Wipro do hire MBAs and Engineering undergrad students to train in their India offices to understand their business model.

Remember this is internal DoS regulation and not a US Code or Law. They can change at any time and way they want to.
The whole law-suit is essentially about hardship caused to applicants in multiple dimensions with a sprinkling of violation of law (info on which is still quiet hazy )to give some back-bone to the argument in the law-suit!

I agree hosting /maintaining a site does take quite a bit of resources, I am not referring to it in this thread. But, I was hoping that IV can make a distinction of what it plans to do for the lawsuit from what AILF does. As I had mentioned, this would make it only more meaningful for IV members to contribute :)

However, on July 2, the State Department announced that they were breaking with 30 years of tradition and issued an update claiming that no more green cards were available because �the sudden backlog reduction efforts by Citizenship and Immigration Services offices during the past month.� USCIS followed and said that as a result they were going to reject the green card applications of anyone who applied relying on the July Bulletin. This meant that the thousands of immigrants who followed the government�s instructions and obtained the correct paperwork actually had no chance to receive a green card.
In response, Azulay Horn & Seiden, LLC, the largest immigration law firm based in Chicago and fourth largest in the United States, on Friday July 6, filed a class-action law suit on behalf of its clients and all those like them, against Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the Department of State, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, the Department of Homeland Security, and USCIS, and Emilio Gonzalez, and F. Nobody get any advantage from your situation. We are all very sad about your situation. Even legal IV members are forced to go home after loosing their job and after 6 years in H1B.

IF you are not filed I-130 or I-140 at the time or before I-485, your petition is invalid.
Except EB1, almost all EB based GC need labor process.
If your I-94 date is expired and you are not extend it or change to any visa catagory at the time of I-485 filing, you are illegal. IT IS THE HARD TRUTH.
USCIS will not adjust the status, if the petitioner is not legal at the time of I485 filing.
After I-485 filing I-94 expiry is not a problem.
Canada is next country. Why you didn't go back and come in NAFTA or other visa catagory ?

They know where I live, who I live with and anything else they need to know. Illegal immigrants don't make themselves known to anybody that could/would report them. If I had something to hide, I would do so, but I have no secrets from them whatsoever. I have done all I have been asked to do and have the paperwork to prove it. I have not gotten a job anywhere outside of the home I live in and they are well aware of what I do here, I have not committed any crimes, my biometrics have come back clear, therefore I have no criminal record in my home country, so therefore I am not a threat whatsoever to anyone in the US.
No one at USCIS has ever stated by phone or mail that I am here illegally and if that was the case, I would think they would have been quick to deport me since they knew everything they needed to know in order to find me and still do. I have nothing to hide.

Its against law to take color copies of ID, passport, DOB etc in Michigan. So you should not take color copies as it would mean you are breaking a federal law.

I have contributed to IV in faxes, phone calls and sending numerous letters. You can always check my history before analyzing from a blind eye. I have been here for a while, I have even spoken to a few IV core members.
That being said, IV need's be more organized, blind actions and blind analysis wont get us anywhere.
It is the IV core members responsibility, I am aware of the challenges, but people are quiet frustrated and desperate for a change.
If IV is committed on its objectives, then organize a rally or a meeting with USCIS, I will be there.
Show the world what you are and stand for, not just talks should be the motto of this organization. Need my trust and money, please earn it.

Following up on the NYTimes article about the NumbersUSA group, I visited their website and saw that they have a free FAX program where they can easily send faxes to their senators.
One of their fax letters is below, which is a complete mis-representation of truth - look at point #2.

Also, I recommend creating a similar page in IV website, where we can have an automated 1-2-3 STEP fax facility where we can automatically fax a letter to senators. It should be as simple as selecting the state and pressing the Send Fax button. Please let me know if you need any programming help from me.

Because the alternative is to
a) sit at home and
b) bitch about retrogression.
I am from ROW, and so I am not so severely affected by retrogression. However, I am still fed up of looking at visa bulletins every month, and running into people with stupid freaking smiles on their face, resigned to not doing anything and just bitching about how screwed up the whole thing is.
There is a way things are done in this country. We owe it to ourselves to try that.
And if we don't let people who can make a difference know what our problems are, then we should only blame ourselves.
Like I had said earlier, the purpose of this thread is to come up with the best model possible with the limited data and resources available, that can predict the current dates for PD.
I am pretty sure that a poster, in the form of a visa bulletin, dated 2020, showing that the priority dates of 2003 are finally current, in an indian grocery store, will get a lot more attention and funding for this forum, than anything else.
I (and may be lot of others like me) want to care about IV & want to contribute to IV. But there has not even a single thread of good news for last several months. This is very demotivating. I have contributed only once. Every time I visit this site, I feel guilty of taking a free ride. But at the same time I find it hard to make any contributions with nothing happening on the horizon. Currently it looks like what ever is happening or going to happen with CIR etc is just moving at its own pace. If we can not expedite it, then what is the use? in any case congress will pass some relief for skilled workers when CIR comes up.

I am from ROW, and so I am not so severely affected by retrogression. However, I am still fed up of looking at visa bulletins every month, and running into people with stupid freaking smiles on their face, resigned to not doing anything and just bitching about how screwed up the whole thing is.
There is a way things are done in this country. We owe it to ourselves to try that.
And if we don't let people who can make a difference know what our problems are, then we should only blame ourselves.
Like I had said earlier, the purpose of this thread is to come up with the best model possible with the limited data and resources available, that can predict the current dates for PD.
I am pretty sure that a poster, in the form of a visa bulletin, dated 2020, showing that the priority dates of 2003 are finally current, in an indian grocery store, will get a lot more attention and funding for this forum, than anything else.
I (and may be lot of others like me) want to care about IV & want to contribute to IV. But there has not even a single thread of good news for last several months. This is very demotivating. I have contributed only once. Every time I visit this site, I feel guilty of taking a free ride. But at the same time I find it hard to make any contributions with nothing happening on the horizon. The work on the bill is happening even now behind the scene. We wish to put in more resources and plan for more resources in the coming months.
We are still getting a lot of bounced messages. people have given us email ids like abcd@abcd.com.
If the bill will come up in Feb, behind the scene work must have started or will start after the first 100 hours plan (which should end soon).

It is not possible to revert back to the system where we were allowed to concurrently file I-140/I-485.
The only practical thing that can fought for and achieved is increase in number of visa numbers per year and faster processing.
Even, if visa numbers are current, they will not accept concurrent filing.

You all have to look at this strategically. We all know at this stage of the election that Obama will likely win. We also know that congress is currently controlled by Democrats. If we have both congress and white house being controlled by democrats, then it is likely that we will have more things accomplished than if we have one party holding to one and another party holding to the other.
Forget the election rhetoric, Obama is not against legal immigrants (neither is McCain). At this stage, we have to look at the big picture which I just highlighted. What we should be working for right now (well I know we are not partisan) is for more democrats to win seats at the congressional and senate level so that bills that are pushed forward we have a better chance of passing and hopefully the ones that favor us and eliminate this backlog too.
